The Early PatriotsThe New England Patriots have been an NFL team since 1970, and were an AFL team since 1960, being known as the Boston Patriots, and played in many different stadiums until the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, when the Patriots were renamed the New England Patriots and moved to Foxborough Stadium.
The Patriots had mild success and made the playoffs a few times, but were never really a powerhouse team. In 1985, they lost Super Bowl XX to the Chicago Bears. |
The Modern Patriots
The 1990's
In the early 1990's, the Patriots were one of the worst teams in the NFL, going 15-1 in 1990. But that would all change when Drew Bledsoe was drafted for the quarterback position. The Patriots became much more successful and made the playoffs multiple times. They lost Super Bowl XXXI to the Packers.

2001-2004
The 2000 Patriots disappointed when they went 5-11 under new head coach Bill Belichick. But in the 2001 season when Bledsose was injured, a future Hall Of Famer, Tom Brady took over. Leading the Patriots to their first Super Bowl win in a nail biter finish. He led them to two more Super Bowls in 2003 and 2004.

2007-2013
The Patriots had gone undefeated in 2007, but lost in the final minutes of Super Bowl XLII to the New York Giants. They also lost super Bowl XLVI to the Giants once again, and it seemed like the Patriots were not going to win their fourth Super Bowl.

2014-Present

They went to Super Bowl XLIX and won in the final seconds thanks to Malcom Butler's interception. Today, they are on their quest to their fifth Super Bowl.
